Literary study, always retrospective, is not immune to the fallacies of the backward gaze.
Right now, I contest the absorbent matrix of last century’s theory.
The nature of the ideological battle has changed. It is no longer an attempt to expand beyond the borders of the self, rather one seeks to prevent expansion of the recognised other into the self’s precariously cultivated kitchen garden–a different cycle of the perched pirouette of colony.
