The clamor of pigeons

A wave lapping at the edge of the day turned out to be pain.
Inevitable, prescient, impersonal.
A thing apart, stone in my heart, child in
my belly.
Before
the pain was the void. Absence of pigeons’ wings against a window.
Reason
is a stone slab, truth and death at once eclipsing the journey.

Longing

Poetry goes looking for that which is not.
No refuge.
Detachment telescopes into exile,
(be)longing–longing–
The proof is past,
Proof, snatched from the passing, patched,
Borrowed,
Taken in a coup where truth is hostage.
